How much should you spend on an engagement ring?

Let’s start with the good news: the old adage that you have to spend three months’ wages on an engagement ring is not true. That was thought up by advertising folk for a big brand years ago. So how much should you spend on an engagement ring? To work out how much you’d like to spend, start by thinking about your partner’s style, and what their expectations would be. Maybe they’ve dropped hints that they’d love a giant diamond, or perhaps they’d like something timeless. You might know they love vintage jewellery, or have expressed a desire to have a lab-grown diamond. We say, set a price, and we’ll find you the very best engagement ring for your budget.

What finger does an engagement ring go on?

Traditionally, engagement rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand - the one next to the little finger.  The Ancient Romans believed there was a vein running from this finger directly to the heart, and it’s been associated with love and romance ever since.

How can you find out your partner’s ring size?

There are a few ways you can work out your partner’s ring size when you’re shopping for an engagement ring. Either bring another of their rings with you and we can size it for you, or see if you can sneak a circle of paper inside one of their rings, and bring that paper in with you for us to measure. What’s the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?

Lab-grown diamonds are a fantastic alternative to traditional mined diamonds, as they’re seen as a more socially and environmentally conscious option. Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemical compound as natural diamonds, so they’re essentially real diamonds; however, they’re produced in a lab, meaning the process of making them is far less labour-intensive with less impact on the environment. As a result, they’re about one-third of the price of a mined diamond. And because they’re made in a laboratory, their clarity and colour is perfect.
